Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in a therapy session with you?

My therapy practice is online so you can have sessions wherever you want. I like to imagine you’re super comfy in PJs, with some hot cocoa, and a blanket or maybe your pets. Some therapists wait for the client to speak first, but I know some people need a little help so I often start sessions with “what do you want to talk about today,” “how are you feeling,” or I follow-up from last week’s session.

How do we end a session?

In our last 5 minutes, I will check-in make sure we have a recap of the session (most often I message this to you), and I will offer you a tool and/or homework exercise to work on for next week. This can be as simple as paying attention to certain thoughts or helping support you on taking steps for specific goals for next time. I welcome messages between sessions, and I may message you during the week to check up on the plan.

What is the difference between behavior coaching and therapy?

Behavior coaching is a process of identifying a specific goal and breaking down the steps to meet that goal. I will be more directive with you in terms of telling you what to do and why to do it. In therapy, you may bring in a general issue, eg. “I’m feeling blue after a break up.” With coaching, however, it would be more specific, eg. “I want to go on 20 dates.”

Another example to demonstrate the difference would include feeling unsatisfied at work and finding a new career path. In therapy, with this issue, we’d explore the feelings, maybe relationship patterns, your history with jobs, your association with work, your dream, and goals. I’d help you flesh out what’s holding you back and how I can help you move forward.

With coaching, however, I’d dive right into some career compatibility exams or questions. Then we’d work through an action-oriented plan of finding a new career path, breaking down the steps, working through each step, and eventually changing paths.

How do I know if behavior coaching or therapy is right for me?

Do you want a safe place to explore your feelings and process experiences? Then therapy is a great fit!

Do you have specific goals you want help to achieve? Are you looking for direction and homework? Then coaching is what you’re looking for!

A good question to ask is: Are you process- or results-oriented? Therapy is about the process, with us walking a path together, exploring and making discoveries. In coaching, we determine the destination, and I help navigate you there.

What do you charge?

I believe it is important for everyone to have access to therapy and for that reason I set reasonable rates. I charge $90-$200 depending on the service and what you can pay.

I accept Cigna, Magellan, TriCare, Optum/United, Aetna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance.

I also have a number of sliding scale spots for those in need of further reduced fees.
